VA Disability Rating 100% P&T: What Permanence Means and What Unlocks
What this rating means
A 100% P&T (permanent and total) rating means the VA has determined no future re-examinations are scheduled - the rating is protected from routine re-evaluation. P&T unlocks dependent education programs on top of the 100% tier's benefits.
What unlocks at this level
Permanence protections: no scheduled future re-examinations under VA re-examination policy (source: VA.gov permanent and total ratings page)
Dependent education programs: Chapter 35 DEA (source: VA.gov Survivors' and Dependents' Educational Assistance program page)
All 100% schedular tier benefits remain in effect (source: VA.gov 100% tier benefits)
Verification rider: every item cites its source page at VA.gov or the named official source; each row is re-verified quarterly.
What to check next
P&T does not cancel obligations tied to dependents - keep dependents records current with the VA.
Read our Q&A on what P&T does and does not change for future claims and appeals.
Route questions to a free accredited VSO; verify accreditation at the official VA accreditation search.
Bring it to a free accredited representative
Stand Easy Network teaches the process. A free, VA-accredited VSO (DAV, VFW, American Legion, county veterans service officers, and others) takes it from here. Never pay an unaccredited consultant for claims help - accredited representatives are free, and paid help is limited by law to specific accredited classes.
